Cozy MKIV - Chapter 13 (Section 1)

Building the Nose Gear Box

I started out by cutting out the foam for the NG-30's (the parts that support the nosegear retract mechanism) and laying up 4 BID on each side of each, while ensuring that the two NG-30's were identical. I also installed the plywood and metal doublers and inserts for the MKNG-6 strut pivot. I match drilled all the holes for the VENGR retract mechanism, and test fitted it. These images show the NG-30's during construction.

I layed up 2 BID on the nose strut (after sanding it so that it would fit into the MKNG-6 pivot and the MKNG-15 wheel bracket, as well as the MKNG-3 actuator mount point). I then floxed the MKNG-6 in place on the strut, wrapped the center of the strut with 4 BID, and floxed the MKNG-3 and MKNG-4 brackets in place.

I cut out and glassed F-0 and F-5 with one BID and floxed them to the NG-30's, (the picture shows the NG-30's standing upright on TOP of F-0. This is NOT what Nat says to do in the plans, but it seemed like a very simple way of building the box as a unit before attaching it to the fuselage. It worked out very well).
