While talking to him I realized how little I knew about the stuff. I look up in the wicks catalog and found that the stuff bought in the 1,2 and three inch rolls are made of Dacron. In another section of the catalog under peel ply its listed as polyamide light weave fabric, with a release agent. So my question is what type should be used. Nylon or polyester, with release agent or without? Thanks group! BTW they deal with large quantities, but he said he had a couple of small rolls left over. Paul Burkhardt From: "Fred I. I was considering ordering peel ply from them after seeing Wicks offer 60" wide rolls for $7.43/yd. Then I noticed that ACS offers 50" wide rolls at only $2.30/yd, and 66" for $3.65/yd, so it didn't seem worth the trouble. It MUST have a high sheen to it or you WILL be sanding it off! I try not to use white peel ply on something that I'm going to leave peel ply on to protect the surface for any length of time. I use a very light blue, yellow, orange or green so it's easier to see the peel ply is still on the surface a long time later. The fabric stores have these odd colors on sale a lot, $1 to $2+ per yard, 50 to 66" wide. Fabric stores will even order you a few bolts at a good deal when they do their next order. If you are not sure of the fabric you are looking at, the store is usually very happy to give you a sample piece to try to make sure it pulls up. I think I've mentioned this in past posts before, but I also iron all my peel ply with a warm iron to pre-shrink it and get all the creases and wrinkles out, then roll it up onto a cardboard carpet tube that carpet stores throw out. Saves a lot of headaches later when glassing. Standby for the females giggling and staring at a man in a fabric store looking for peel ply - good luck. BTW they deal with large quantities, but he said he had a >couple of small rolls left over. I have used both materials. The peel ply that I bought from Northern Fiber Glass Sales I believe was a pure peel ply, i.e. no release agent. I believe it was a Dacron polyester. This I use for a typical wet layup. The peel ply that has a release agent is gold in color (at least the stuff that I've used), and I use this material for the release ply in a vacuum bag layup. You do not need the Tedlar perforated ply when this material is used, just the release, the bleeder, and the bagging material. I use 2 mil Nylon for the vacuum bag and butyl tape (a calk used by the auto glass industry) for sealing the bag. Since the peel ply that has a release coating doesn't readily conform to complex shapes, I would use the perforated Tedlar for these applications. I hope that this is sufficiently confusing.
