I am sure I am far from it, but what chapter in the plans should I be at before I get my first inspection from an EAA technical counsler? I'm going to have my second inspection done in a month or so, with the wings/winglets complete and the turtledeck/canopy complete, as well as the nose area and control system. I'll ask the inspector when a good time for the last inspection will be. -- Marc J. I think a FAA rep. at the local FSDO told me years ago even before I started my project that the FAA does not inspect during the building process (like they once did). They wait until the plane is ready for final airworthy inspection at completion and inspect it once, assuming you pass. Is this still true? John Fritz fritzx2@aol.com From: Marc J. Is this still true? Steve O'Brian asks: >This may sound really stupid, but what 3 inspections are you referring >to? Am I correct in assuming they are voluntary? I guess that both the question and my answer could have been a lot clearer. The "inspections" that we're referring to are the the E.A.A. Technical Advisor inspections, NOT the FAA final inspection. These are NOT mandatory wrt getting the airworthiness certificate. However, they are recommended for two reasons: first, to have someone that knows their butt from a hole in the ground take a look at your work over the course of time and give you input and feedback, and second, because some insurance companies will give you a break on your insurance rates (and insure you earlier) than if you didn't have the inspections. Sorry for the confusion. -- Marc J. Zeitlin Email: marcz@an.hp.com Date: Mon, 18 Aug 1997 09:19:00 -0400 From: David Domeier Subject: Re: COZY: When should I get first inspection? Also, I believe the same insurance rate break is available to anyone who subscribes to the Central States Association. It was so stated in the one of the recent issues of the CSA newsletter. dd From: ponciroli@postoffice.worldnet.att.net Date: Mon, 18 Aug 1997 09:05:36 -0500 Subject: Re: COZY: EAA inspections >Terry Pierce asks; > >>I am sure I am far from it, but what chapter in the plans should I be at >>before I get my first inspection from an EAA technical counsler? I plan to have four or more along the way because I have found them to be very benificial. If you have at least three inspections, insurance rates drop by ten percent. I have found the inspectors to be a neglected lot and have fed them for their troubles. They do a lot of good for us who are new to aircraft construction. Don Ponciroli (860) 464-1158
