Using the method described by John Roncz in a Jan. 1991 article in _Sport_Aviation_ ("Canards and Other Unsolved Mysteries"), I come up with an area of ~116 sq ft for the main wing area. This includes the strakes and the area "buried" in the fuse (as per Roncz). A simpler calculation ignoring the strakes, but including the buried area gives me 91.2 sq ft. If I ignore the buried area, and include the strakes, I get close to the published number. What is the correct area to use for performance modeling? Roncz, and everthing else I remember seeing, says to include the area buried in the fuse. (If you must know, I was playing with a Flight Simulator 5.1 Cozy model, instead of laying up fiberglass. It didn't want to fly at all until I used the Roncz method to figure area and center of lift.) Doug Powell Cozy Mk-IV #293 powelldo@ix.netcom.com
