From: "Paul Stowitts" Subject: RE: COZY: Chp 12 canard angle Date: Sat, 26 May 2001 22:34:08 -0700 Mark, The Owners Manual originally called out for a canard incidence tolerance of plus/minus 0.3 degrees. That was changed later to 0.0 degrees to +0.6 degrees in newsletter 56. Originally I was on the low end of the first tolerance which was not good (it was controllable but clearly a problem). I then changed it to the high side (+0.2 degrees) which was much better but not enough for my test pilot or Nat's graph in newsletter 56. I have since moved it to +0.5 degrees which is working great. It was not hard to change the incidence but I had to cut the aft flange off to allow the trailing edge to move down. To change the incidence, I heated the canard pin bushings with a small soldering iron and then twisted them out. I drilled the hole larger, put the cleaned bushings back on the pins with some grease (for release), filled the new holes with flox and clamped the canard in place at the new angle. Worked great and took less than two hours. If you plan on finishing your plane prior to test flying it, I would suggest adding a little more incidence now. If you are not going to finish it first, fly it and see how it flies.
