I'm ready to skin the top of my canard and noticed a 1/8" joggle at the trailing edge where the foam ends and the bottom skin continues. The contour is very close to the F templet and I'm afraid to sand the foam any further. My fix is to add small amount of wet flox, peel ply and let cure before applying top skin. Does this sound ok? ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Juno offers FREE or PREMIUM Internet access for less! Join Juno today! And this is my own thoughts, not necessarily aerodynamic correct. 1: Need to determine which is out of tolerance, the foam too high or the trailing edge too low. The Canard is a fussy crossection, where 1/8" out of 2" thickness is 6% error. 2: Don't think a thick trailing edge (from flox thickness) is a good idea, and the elevator and its gap to the canard geometry is critical. THe Canard lift is very important. 3: If the foam is high, just sand it down. 4: If the trailing edge is low, probably the best is to grind back to where the contour is correct, and do a long thin patch of fiberglass. Might be easiest to finish the top lay up with something to break the bond to the bottom plys, and then go back and repair the bottom. Sounds like 1 or 2 evenings to do the sanding/grinding, 1 evening for the repair layup, and 1 evening for misc. Even if its double that, thats still minor time, and next to no costs. I have more than a few times lost a lot more time and money than that without blinking an eyeball. There were times that I have done something over 3 or more times to get it right.
